Material
Despite its smooth texture and fine appearance, melton wool is exceptionally hard-wearing and weather-resistant. These qualities made it the go-to material for the first peacoats when they were introduced and issued by naval authorities across Europe in the 19th century. The beautiful 24-oz melton we sourced for the Mendocino Peacoat has been bolstered by a Thinsulate™ layer and a cotton/polyester lining for additional insulation, while naked cowhide leather reinforces the sleeves, collar, and hand warmer pockets.
